The National Nuclear Energy Generating Company of Ukraine, or Atomic Energy, said the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant was first built in 1979 and started operating in 1984.
Citing the IAEA, the Zaporizhzhia and Chernobyl nuclear power plants both have six units. However, the capacity to generate electricity at the two points is different.
The Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant is capable of generating up to 6,000 megawatts of electrical energy. This number is much larger than the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, which is only capable of generating electricity up to 1,000 megawatts, quoted from Britannica.
These two nuclear power plants were both built during the Soviet Union era. However, a tragic fate befell the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.
