Guadalajara /
In order to dignify the quality of life of the student community by improving the spaces of their school environment The Senderos Seguros program was implemented around General Secondary School 67, located in the San Juan de Ocotán delegation in Zapopan.
According to María Gómez Rueda, general coordinator of Community Construction, in this stage primary and basic education schools are included in the program since previously it was only for upper secondary and higher schools.
“With the help of municipal services we place new lights, if a bus stop is needed that is taken into account and also the construction of sidewalks, pruning of trees and with these measures that are taken by the City Council with municipal public services is how we improve the environments of the students to improve that they go to study with dignity”, he explained.
This program was implemented in Zapopan in 2018, in response to the general recommendation of the Jalisco State Human Rights Commission (CEDHJ) to help put an end to the insecurity that affects citizens in the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area (AMG).
In addition, through Safe Paths, it has been possible to identify the most recurrent problems that students have in their environment, explained the public official.
“Unfortunately, the assaults outside the schools, the students are easy prey for the people who are plotting these things and the sexual harassment in the vicinity of the schools,” he said.
Since its implementation in 2018, Senderos Seguros has benefited more than 40,000 people, including students, the neighborhood community, mothers and fathers.
In the particular case of general high school 67, 25 students were appointed who will be ‘watchmen’ and will be in charge of reporting on the needs of the school environment. Part of the actions will be the increase in police presence.
