Zapatero asks the EU to reflect on its postu …

The former president of the Government of Spain José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, who is in Caracas, asked the European Union (EU) to reflect on its position regarding Venezuela after the legislative elections that are being held this day and in which he participates as an invited international observer.

“I want the EU to reflect after these elections, to evaluate what the sanctions policy (against Venezuela) has given itself,” said the former socialist president, during an appearance on Venezuelan state television.

He also considered that as of this Monday, “There must be a thorough reflection” by those who have supported the policy of US President Donald Trump, regarding Venezuela because, in his opinion, that strategy “no longer exists”, in view of the imminent end of the Republican Administration in the White House.

“Everyone can understand my radical discrepancy with the Trump Administration’s strategy towards Venezuela. It was a strategy that started from serious information errors, which took unfair measures and which has failed in the results,” he said.

For this reason, he continued, he hopes that after “the clamorous defeat” of Trump and, with this, “of all the strategy that existed towards Venezuela” a new path will open in the South American country in which dialogue and harmony prevail .

The former president reiterated his satisfaction with the development of the legislative votes in the country, in which the opposition led by Juan Guaidó and currently controlled by the National Assembly does not participate, considering them fraudulent.

“I know that in this electoral process there are opposition parties, more than 10, that have decided to attend these elections (…) tThere are also opposition parties, opposition leaders, who have decided not to participate in the elections. “He explained after insisting that the elections enjoy plurality.

Rodríguez Zapatero called for the abstentionists to reflect and urged them to join in future elections, since he expressed his respect for those who decided not to participate. “I respect those who did not decide to participate, I do not understand those who judge the system without knowing it or without being here and do not give it validity,” he continued.
