Robredo symbolically ended his professional career where it began. In 1999, at the clay court in Barcelona, he was given the opportunity to play the ATP Tour for the first time as a sixteen-year-old and defeated the then world number one, Marata Safin from Russia.

During his 23 years on the professional circuit, Robredo won 12 titles in singles, was in the top ten of the world rankings for over 100 weeks and rejoiced in the Davis Cup triumph with Spain three times.
