Jakarta –
Jose Mourinho can’t stop myself from commenting on the goal controversy Nicolo Zaniolo which was annulled. He assesses AS Roma sort of taken for granted.
AS Roma were held to a 0-0 draw with Genoa at the Olimpico, Saturday (5/2/2022) night WIB in continued Italian League. Giallorossi who appear dominant appear dominant, especially after winning the number of players since the 68th minute.
The constant pressure from Roma only paid off in the 90th minute, when Nicolo Zaniolo’s shot found the net for Genoa. Unfortunately, the goal was reviewed by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) and it was declared a foul by Tammy Abraham, who was deemed to have stepped on Johan Vasquez.
Roma in the end also had to play with 10 men after Zaniolo was sent off for protesting. Coach AS Roma Jose Mourinho initially reluctant to talk about the incident in the interview after the game.
“I don’t want to comment on that. I can comment on the game, but not about the goals or the red card for the reaction after. I prefer to avoid this. We can talk about the game, but I prefer not to talk about that,” he told reporters. DAZN quoted Football Italia.
Mourinho had praised the performance of Genoa, which he called worthy of fighting for a point all out to escape the relegation zone. He also admitted that it was difficult for Roma to dismantle the defense in the visitors.
But in the end Mourinho could not bear to discuss the incident Zaniolo’s goal was disallowed. He saw the possibility that Rome was seen as trivial by those in power.
“If the referee makes the right decision, then our sport, which many years ago became a sport that people like, has changed. This is a different sport. Different,” continued Mourinho.
“If it’s a foul, then this is no longer football, we have to call it another name. We need another name, because the sport is different.”
“If the referee makes a mistake by disallowing a goal, he will be the first to be disappointed because he made a mistake, while for Roma it’s Deja Vu, because it has happened to us many times this season.”
“There is also a third option, namely Roma are considered ‘small’ in the eyes of those in power. I will stop there, because Mourinho who arrived here seven months ago has a different profile than the previous one,” added the Portuguese man.
