Zanardi, stable but always serious health conditions. Doctors caution on waking up

Alex Zanardi has been hospitalized for eight days in the intensive care unit of the university hospital Santa Maria alle Scotte in Siena. The ex pilot is in a pharmacological coma, his conditions are defined stable by doctors who will decide next week whether to stop the drug coma and awaken Zanardi.

Zanardi’s health conditions are stable

On Friday 19 June on the provincial road 146 in the municipality of Pienza in the province of Siena the four times Paralympic gold was the victim of a serious road accident. A few minutes after the accident he was rescued before being hospitalized in serious conditions, then he was operated on – the operation lasted over three hours – and was placed in a pharmacological coma. The former Formula 1 driver, who won two CART championships in the United States, he spent the eighth night in the hospital. Its conditions remain almost identical and that is stable, with the severity of the neurological picture present. Cardio-respiratory and metabolic parameters are not new. The prognosis is always confidential and only at the beginning of next week the medical team will decide whether or not to suspend the drug coma. Of course, as happens in these cases, caution remains.

The moving post of Zanardi’s son

In recent days Zanardi’s family, in agreement with the doctors, has decided to suspend the publication of daily bulletins on the athlete’s condition. On Friday Zanardi’s son, 22-year-old Niccolò, returned to post on Instagram where he published a beautiful image of his smiling dad, probably after winning a race, and wrote: “I miss that smile of yours, but I know I will see it again soon, we will all see it again soon”. Niccolò’s hope is everyone’s, because in a transversal way many love Zanardi, who is an example for everyone, as Pope Francis also said who wrote him a letter: “I pray for you. Through sport you have made disability a lesson in humanity for all “.
