Zamość. Assault on a teenager in the city center. Nobody reacted

The case became famous when on March 1, the day after the tragic death of 16-year-old Eryk, a video from the event was published on his Facebook profile by one of the city councillors. The recording shows how a young man attacks a boy getting on a bus at a bus stop at ul. Peowiak, threatens him, hits him with his hands and kicks. Everything happens with witnesses. Someone records the event, but… does not react. The attacked person is covered with their bodies by other people getting into the vehicle.

– Yes, you can’t. You have to oppose such behavior – writes councilor Rafał Zwolak in his post.

It turns out that the police are taking action in this case on the same day, but not on the basis of material published in social media, but when the video is delivered to the headquarters by one of the employees of the Zamość City Hall. By the way, it turns out that the whole incident took place much earlier, on February 14, but no one informed the police about it.

– After receiving the report, the police officers dealt primarily with determining the victim, a 16-year-old from Zamość, as well as witnesses and, of course, the perpetrator. He is a 20-year-old resident of the municipality of Nielisz, who was previously wanted by the police to serve an 8-month prison sentence for a previously committed crime against life and health – informs asp. pcs. Dorota Krukowska-Bubiło, spokeswoman for the Municipal Police Headquarters in Zamość.

The aggressor was arrested on Tuesday, March 7. A day later, the 20-year-old was brought to the prosecutor’s office, where he was charged with three charges, including particularly bold theft, which is punishable by up to 8 years in prison, making criminal threats, as well as violating bodily integrity.

– All the allegations relate to this one incident on February 14. The 20-year-old stole headphones worth PLN 750 from the victim, hit him on the cheek with his hand and kicked him twice – the policewoman clarifies.

At the request of the investigators, the court decided to pre-trial detention for three months for a young resident of the Nielisz commune. It is possible that the young man would have been behind bars earlier if the information about the incident had reached the Zamość police station earlier.

“There is no effective police without the cooperation of the public. If we see such events, we see that something is going on, let’s alert the services, call 112. Because on the basis of this particular case, it can be seen that someone knew what happened for 2 weeks and had material documenting the incident, and did nothing about it – sums up Krukowska-Bubiło.
