Zamora is among the cheapest cities to live

Zamora is among the cheapest cities in Spain to live in, up to 20 percent below the national average, according to a study by Kelisto.es which analyzes how much consumers must spend to access the same products and services in the different Spanish provincial capitals.

On the contrary, the cost of living in Barcelona is 35.5 percent higher than the national average, which makes the city the most expensive capital to live in, followed by San Sebastián (+ 29.9% over the average) and Madrid (+ 25.22%).

The analysis carried out by Kelisto.es takes into account data from 50 provincial capitals, plus the autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla. For each of them, the website has examined figures on 14 products and services from five categories: housing (purchase and rental), taxes (IBI, circulation tax and garbage tax), public and private transport, (price of a single ticket bus and 10-trip voucher, taxis and gasoline), shopping (shopping basket, cost of a loaf of bread and a liter of milk) and leisure (price of a movie ticket and a cane).

To determine which are the most expensive and cheapest localities, the difference with respect to the national average in all variables and for all cities has been calculated. These percentages have been added and divided by the number of variables analyzed in each case.

Thus, the ‘top 10’ of the most expensive cities is headed by Barcelona followed by San Sebastián, Madrid, Palma de Mallorca, Valencia, Vitoria, Girona, Albacete, Oviedo and Tarragona.
