Ahmed Salem, the official spokesman for Zamalek, said on his club channel on Friday morning: “There is thinking about moving to participate in the tournament.”
He continued, “There is a meeting of the Board of Directors that will be held next Monday, and we will study the matter. Once a decision is reached, the Football Association will be contacted regarding this matter.”
The new tournament will be held in the Emirates with the participation of Al-Ahly, the league champion, Pyramids, the runner-up, Ceramica Cleopatra, the League Cup champion, and Modern Future, fourth in the league.
Zamalek will miss the tournament as punishment after apologizing for not participating in the last edition of the Super Cup.
Amer Hussein, a member of the Football Association and head of the Competitions Committee, previously responded to the news of Zamalek’s request to participate in the Super Cup, saying: “I was surprised by the question. I cannot answer, as the matter is not related to the Competitions Committee, but rather to the Football Association.”
He continued, “If anything official is sent, we will respond officially after studying. There is the Football Association, the Club Association, and the sponsoring company. I cannot answer that matter live. Zamalek did not submit any request for us to respond to it.”
