The Zamalek elections, which began at 9 a.m. on Friday, caught fire early with 66 competitors, which were reduced to 65 after Khaled Latif’s sudden withdrawal.
Latif, the former Treasurer of the Board of Directors of Zamalek, announced his withdrawal from the race to run for the same position in the current elections for two main reasons, the first of which is the current events in Palestine, and the second of which is the appeals submitted to the elections before the Supreme Administrative Court, which exposes the elections to invalidity and threatens the stability of the club. A crisis broke out between the unified list of candidates in the Zamalek club elections, and Farouk Gaafar, the former team star and candidate for the club presidency, because of standing on one of the podiums inside the club.
Some members intervened and Farouk Jaafar removed the accompanying members so that matters would not escalate. The electoral process also witnessed an altercation between the independent candidates and a number of supporters of the Unified List, due to chants. (Click here for more details)
