Zamalek Apologizes for Super Cup; Pyramids May Replace Them

And the “Fi Al Ghoul” website quoted a member of the Football Association’s board of directors, Ehab El-Komy, as saying: “We will address Zamalek Club to make sure that it does not officially play the Super Match.”

He added, “We will make sure of Zamalek after we learned of his announcement not to participate in the Super Cup, and in the event that Zamalek officially informs us of not participating, we will address the Pyramids Club to participate in the match according to the tournament regulations.”

• The Zamalek Club Board of Directors officially announced an apology for not participating in the Egyptian Super Cup against Al-Ahly in the Emirates.
• Zamalek’s announcement came through a video by Mortada Mansour, the club’s president, against whom a ruling of removal from office was issued, on his YouTube channel.
• Zamalek, the league champion last season, was supposed to meet Al-Ahly, the cup champion, in the Super Cup next Friday in Abu Dhabi.
• Pyramids are the runners-up of the Egypt Cup last season, after losing to Al-Ahly in the final.

Mortada Mansour revealed the reasons for Zamalek’s apology for not participating in the Super Cup, in statements in which he said:

• “The matter started since Zamalek stopped registering new deals unjustly, and not because of the electrification penalty in the first place.”
• “The Disciplinary Committee, whose appointment Al-Ahly claims is invalid, filed a complaint against me and electrified an example for investigation before it, so how does Al-Ahly say that it is invalid and how do they complain to us before it?”
• “We will not participate in this (farce), and also after the Football Association decided to hold the Super Cup with Egyptian referees, then we will lose a new championship, as happened in the basketball final.”
• “I apologize to the fans of Zamalek and Al-Ahly who booked the Super tickets, and I also apologize to the UAE and tell them that we are ready to play a match between Zamalek, the Egyptian League champion, and the UAE League champion, on the same date as the Super League, if we are invited.”
