Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said it’s impossible to put up with the White House’s statement, which states that the United States and Great Britain won the victory over the Nazis.
“Call it what you want: falsification, mockery of common sense, rewriting of history. But when such a comment is made by the official authorities of the country, calling itself the “leader of the free world” and “the defender of democracy”, an implacable fighter with fakes, you cannot put up with it, ” wrote Zakharova on Facebook.
She noted that this approach is designed to neutralize the effect of the adoption by the presidents of the United States and Russia of Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin of a joint statement on the 75th anniversary of the meeting of Soviet and American soldiers on the Elbe, which emphasized the role of many countries and peoples, the sacrifice of millions of soldiers and civilians in the fight against Nazism.
Earlier, the White House stated in its official Instagram account that the United States and Great Britain had won over Nazism, but did not mention the contribution of the Soviet Union to the victory.
