Paris, November 18 (EFE).- Warren Zaïre-Emery completed his dazzling rise to the football elite this Saturday with his first start and his first goal for the French senior team, at the age of 17 years, 8 months and 10 days.
Zaïre-Emery not only started as a starter, helped by the injury of Madrid player Eduardo Camavinga, but in the 17th minute he scored a goal, 3-0, by completing a counterattack that he himself started, making a one-two with Kingsley Coman and finishing in the area in an unappealable manner.
Just after shooting inside the area, Gibraltarian defender Evan Santos hit him on the right ankle, which earned the offender a red card and a substitution for the young Frenchman, who limped off.
In early international caps, he is only surpassed by Maurice Gastinger, who played for France in a match in 1914, aged 17 years, 4 months and 5 days, and Julien Verbrugghe (in 1906, aged 16 years, 10 months and six days).
Until now, the record in modern times was held by Camavinga himself, who debuted with the ‘Bleus’ at the age of 17 years and 303 days and scored his first goal for the senior team at the age of 17 years and 332 days.
Born in Montreuil, on the outskirts of Paris, Zaïre-Emery signed his first professional contract in July of last year with Paris Saint-Germain, where between last season and the current one he has broken all the club’s precocity records.
This season he has the full trust of the new Parisian coach, the Spanish Luis Enrique, who has given him a permanent position in the midfield.
Zaïre-Emery came to PSG at the age of seven after standing out in the youth ranks thanks to the influence of his father, a youth and youth coach.
After always playing in age categories older than his own – both at club and national team level – due to his quality, in September he received his first call up for the Under-21 team, of which he was elected captain despite being the youngest player.
And the penultimate stage was burned on the 9th, when the senior coach, Didier Deschamps, called him up for the senior squad in the qualifying matches for the German Euro Cup against Gibraltar and Greece (next Tuesday).
Zaïre-Emery is a complete midfielder who combines physical display and work capacity with good technique and great reading of the game, according to French analysts and the club’s own coaches.
But, above all, what stands out about him is his serenity and maturity, both on the field of play and when it comes to assuming his meteoric progression to the elite.
In fact, in the PSG locker room he is known as “Robot” for his ability to work and his sobriety. And in the club’s sports city he has also attracted attention for the seriousness with which he takes his high school studies, in which he has Ethan Mbappé, brother of the Parisian star, as his main companion.
