“Exactly. I think it should be quickly included in the protocols of public health: 5 or 6 minutes and you know if you are positive, without a laboratory. Among other things, just to verify its reliability in Veneto we have done many double tests, both with the traditional and with the rapid: very reliable results. It is no coincidence that today there are 11 international pharmaceutical companies offering it and the price has dropped to 4.5 euros ».

«Today the rapid, or rather the antigen test, is accepted for those coming from Greece, Croatia, Malta and Spain. But extending its use would greatly facilitate the lives of families and doctors ».

Do you agree with the governor of Piedmont Alberto Cirio who won his battle to have the temperature measured even at school?

“And do you ask me? He’s right, it’s common sense. They take your temperature in shops, at the hairdresser, in the gym … why not at school? I got an idea: in Rome they opposed the measurement in schools, otherwise they would have had a trade union discussion about jobs. But mine is only a hypothesis, if the opposite were true, let us explain the scientific reason “.

How did the school start in Veneto?

«From a pedagogical point of view, not in the best way: 13 thousand vacant positions, more or less half filled by alternates. After seven months of warm-up on the sidelines, we expected better ».

What are you doing, president, arguing with the government?

«No controversy, it is an observation. It is clear that if you have half the teachers, you will have to do less time. I don’t want to be top of the class, I can only give the vision of someone who is in the trenches. I have three interlocutors: students, parents and healthcare. I am responsible for these subjects and I cannot forget it ».

What worries you most about the delicate reopening of schools?

“It is not a matter of concern, there are three points that comfort me. First, we have no hospital emergency: we have 18 people in intensive care. Second, today 95% of positives have no symptoms and return negative without having had them. Finally, from what we learn from the scientific community, children or adolescents of pediatric age are the least exposed. My job today is to reconcile families with doctors ».

«We need to reshape the relationship with local medicine, in particular pediatricians with whom we have an excellent dialogue. They rightly with a child with a cough, two lines of fever, in the light of today’s protocols, and also for their understandable protection, are forced into rigid positions. But they know what to do, they know the patients and they are able to understand that some symptoms have nothing to do with Covid. But I also put myself in the shoes of a mother ».
