Zack Britton suffers a new injury, now in the elbow, and goes on the NY Yankees injured list

ATLANTA – New York Yankees reliever Zack Britton suffered another setback with an ailment and entered the 10-day disabled list Monday with a strained left elbow.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone spoke before the start of an important two-game series against the Atlanta Braves, saying they will assess Britton’s condition in the coming days to determine the best way to proceed.

Britton felt some pain in her elbow before Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Twins. He underwent an MRI that showed “a little strain,” Boone said.

“We are now in the process of gathering various opinions to make sure we are all on the same page about what to do next and everything,” Boone said. “We will probably know a little more in the next few days.”

This is Britton’s latest setback this season.

Britton was unable to debut until June 12 after undergoing arthroscopic surgery to remove a splinter in his left elbow bone. He was later on the DL for a longer hamstring strain.

Britton, 33, had eight saves and a 1.89 ERA during the 2020 season shortened by the pandemic. But he’s struggled this season, going 0-1 with a 5.89 ERA and one save in 22 appearances.
