“Mr. Bakoyiannis decided that yesterday’s discussion of the Municipal Council on the issues of Cleanliness was not important enough to respect it.
He chose to dynamit it, turning the debate to the result of the recent municipal elections where he was booed by the Athenians, and claiming that this was a product of neo-Nazi support.
He is the same one who, when the opposition in the Municipality of Athens called for measures to exclude neo-Nazis from the municipal elections, he turned a deaf ear.
Let Mr. Bakoyiannis digest that the Athenians punished him for his arrogant and ineffective tenure. The cooperation of the progressive forces succeeded in putting the Municipality of Athens on a different trajectory.
If his faction is unable to contribute creatively to the good of the city, at least let it avoid inappropriate and provocative positions that resurrect the dead and give a role to the Nazis, and indeed at a time when vigilance against the extreme right must be strengthened.”
