Żabka Drive: Poland’s First Car Convenience Store for Small Purchases

The creation of the first Żabka, where you can do small purchases without getting out of your car, was already known last year. On October 28, the store became a reality. The first point was built in Piaseczno near Warsaw, on the busiest access street. However, contrary to appearances, we cannot buy everything in the window.

This is the first store of this type in Poland. While the procedure of buying products without getting out of the car is known and common in the USA, in Poland it is limited to fast food outlets. From Saturday, October 28, this group has expanded to include Żabka.

The network, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, decided to go a step further. Apart from the recently opened unattended Nano stores now The offer has also included a place where the driver can order the necessary things through the window, and pay and collect them the next time. All without leaving the car.

The first such place was built at ul. Puławska in Piaseczno, and others, in other cities, are already in preparation. Although the procedure seemed familiar and obvious, I decided to check how the new store works.

On the one hand, a breakthrough. But on the other hand…

When I arrive a little after 10 in front of the store, there are no crowds waiting in line. Next to the protruding “intercom” from which the cashier speaks, there are displays with products to choose from.

I order tea, a muffin and water. The cashier invites me to the next window, accepts the payment and prepares the order. After three minutes, I drive away with the products I ordered and the receipt in my hand. I paid for everything… PLN 5.

Before I left, I asked about their interest in the new store. As it turns out, the day after opening, the store had many customers and was quite busy. Meanwhile, Monday morning was relatively calm.

However, I must point out a few things. You won’t be able to do full shopping at the window. The point was created so that drivers can grab coffee, tea, hot dogs, burgers, sandwiches or salads for later and continue their journey to work.

We can also buy bottled drinks through the window, though for alcohol, cigarettes or simply larger purchases, we have to go inside. This is actually logical and allows you to avoid long queues at the point where it is intended shortest break in the journey.

Żabka Drive inside is an ordinary store with slightly wider aisles than in a regular Żabka, and there is a parking lot for customers. Those who don’t want to eat on the run can use the tables prepared inside.

In terms of the procedure itself, Żabka Drive is nothing groundbreaking. You order, pay, a few minutes and you are on your way. However, from the point of view of the nature of the store, in a sense it is something completely new.

Yes, many of the products you order here they belong to the same quick meal group as McDonald’s or KFC. But let’s also add the opportunity to stock up on packaged sandwiches or salads for later. And all this at relatively normal, reasonable priceswhich we don’t necessarily find in fast food “restaurants”.
