Yvorne: Municipal wine: the former employee has been sentenced – News Vaud & Regions: Riviera-Chablais

The public embezzlement of the Municipality of Yvorne by one of its former executives – case revealed by “24 heures” in May 2018 – just got to know his epilogue.

In charge of the case, Camilla Masson, prosecutor of the Eastern Vaud district, pronounced in January a conviction against the ex-employee initially prosecuted for breach of trust and forgery in the titles. It was the Commune through its trustee Edouard Chollet who had filed a criminal complaint in 2018 after discovering “accounting irregularities”.

The magistrate imposed a sentence of 90 fine-days at 30 francs a day, suspended for two years, without having had a criminal record before. Another fine as an immediate penalty of 600 francs was notified to him. The legal costs, 1,425 francs, were charged to the offender for his unlawful behavior.

6,852 francs diverted and then reimbursed

The sincere regrets expressed by the defendant before the magistrate and the promise in November 2019 to fully reimburse the money diverted to the Commune – which had withdrawn from the civil proceedings as criminal under investigation – pleaded in his favor. The accused, who did not wish to comment on the court decision, did not appeal against his conviction, which is therefore final.

The former employee, who had resigned from office before the facts were revealed, is accused of having kept money from the sale of the municipal wines for which he was responsible. Between 2013 and 2018, he did not account for the municipal accounts of the product of 28 sales. Wine orders were placed by establishments in the region. The dispute related to an amount of 6852 francs, therefore fully reimbursed since by the defendant.

Contacted, Edouard Chollet declined to “comment” following the conviction of his former employee. “The page is turned,” says only the city councilor.
