“I didn’t even know it was going to be in the movie. We were finishing recording and a musician came and told me he needed to sing the song. He played it for me twice, we went to film it and you know the result,” she says of her hit Whiskey, that singer Yvetta Simonová is my gusto from the movie Lemonade Joe. “I sometimes end my performance with whiskey, but I don’t drink it anymore,” laughs the woman who celebrates her 95th birthday this year.

While people mainly know the face of the actress Květa Fialová from the movie Lemonade Joe or the Horse Opera, fewer of them know that the voice of Yvetta Simonová is hidden behind her film songs. The singer is said not to mind at all and remembers not only the hits from the cult film, but also hundreds of other songs from her musical career with love.
However, this does not mean that she would not change something about them today. “All the songs were nice, but I swear at all of them. I would prefer to sing them all over now, because now there is a completely different sound. It can’t be compared to what we had,” the singer admits.
Simonová turns 95 this year and even remembers well the funeral of the First Republic President TG Masaryk. Despite her old age, she does not think that she is lost in the modern world. “I adapt right away, I somehow navigate the world,” he describes, but adds that he does not understand, for example, some modern musical styles. “Playing rap or techno? I hear that on TV and I can’t even come close to it, it’s not my style,” reveals the musician.
Although he has already had two vocal cord operations, he says he has no problems with his voice, and even trains his vocal cords every day. Can she even imagine making a living from anything other than music? “Probably as an usher or a dresser. But I would mistake every other fur coat. The babies wouldn’t get to it, so I don’t know,” laughs Simonová.
