Yverdon: The perpetrator of a double crime ends his life – Vaud & Régions

Several sources confirmed at “24 heures” that he is the man convicted for the double assassination on rue du Lac in Yverdon in 2016 who would have taken his life in mid-January in his cell at the Orbital Plains Establishments, as “The Northern Vaud Region” suspected in its Monday edition. An investigation is opened to detail the exact circumstances of his death, but according to the police statement, the first elements of the investigation concluded that there was probable suicide.

This 28-year-old worker was convicted in August 2019 of stab wounds that ended the life of his neighbor and her companion. But, a rare occurrence, the judges of the Northern Vaud Criminal Court had recognized him as irresponsible. One of the psychiatric examinations carried out during the investigation had concluded that this man suffered from a psychosis, a disorder which had insidiously developed without anyone detecting it.

“I was delirious, I was not myself”

The double murder, which occurred during an episode of decompensation, was committed at the end of the day on the way home from work. Imagining himself persecuted by his neighbor below for several weeks, convinced that she was hurting her cat and irritated by her laughter, he went to her house with a knife and was relentless on the companion of this mother, before attacking her too deadly. 57 stab wounds he had confessed to the court not to explain himself: “I was in a delirium, I was not myself,” he said. A version chosen by the judges.

Recommended by the Public Prosecutor for fear of the risk of recidivism, institutional treatment in a closed environment had been ordered. A solution deemed preferable to a prison sentence coupled with therapeutic measures, a more flexible variant requested by the defense. The convict himself had given up appealing the verdict.

The Vaud Penitentiary Service (SPEN) explains that it is possible for a prisoner suffering from disorders to be placed in prison, if the therapeutic treatment can be provided by qualified personnel.
