Yvelines: the Minister of the City struggles to reassure poor neighborhoods

Above all, don’t forget about the neighborhoods. While the government regularly reiterates its support for the country’s economy, the working-class neighborhoods do not want to be the big ones forgotten by the state’s recovery plan.

It is to try to reassure them that the Minister of the City, Nadia Hai, embarked on a tour of France of the districts. After Roubaix (North) or Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône) a few days ago, she was this Wednesday afternoon in Chanteloup-les-Vignes to remind the government support for disadvantaged neighborhoods. A part of 1% of the recovery plan, or € 1 billion, is devoted to them.

She met the elected officials and social actors of this municipality of 10,500 inhabitants, regularly plagued by urban violence, and whose unemployment has jumped by 13% in recent months.

Mayor Catherine Arenou (DVD) had signed on November 14, like 200 other elected officials from all sides, an open letter to the President of the Republic asking for his help. “We also wanted to show him what works, thanks to the mobilization of actors in the field,” confides the elected official. The Minister seemed sensitive to our situation and some proposals such as the employment city seem interesting. But that is for the long term. These devices will take time to be effective. However, there is absolute urgency. All social indicators are exploding in our municipalities with a worrying phenomenon of accumulation of poverty. Now is what we need. I am very worried because our neighborhoods took ten years to recover from the 2008 crisis. ”

Nadia Hai’s visit ended with the signing of an urban renewal agreement with the dedicated agency (ANRU), which will notably allow the financing of the construction of a school group and part of the educational city.
