On September 25, a security perimeter was set up in front of part of theSaint-Germain church situated at Saint-Germain-en-Laye (Yvelines) to secure the place following thecollapse of false ceiling from the porch.
An insect attack
The disaster which would have been caused by a significant deterioration of the wooden structures following an attack byinsects xylophages, had required the locking of the access by the main door.
Since then, entry into the building has been through the side doors.
Work this summer
But, things should soon return to order thanks to work scheduled for this summer. In municipal council, the City passed a deliberation requesting subsidies from the Regional Directorate of Cultural Affairs (Drac), the Departmental Council and the Region to help finance this restoration project.
At the same time, the Saint-Germain church, listed in the inventory of historical monuments since 1937, should also soon benefit from work on the grandstand organ.
Also at the Saint-Croix church in Fourqueux
The summer of 2021 should also be used to carry out reinforcement work at the level of the Saint-Croix church in Fourqueux, classified as a historic monument, in 1946.
If many restorations have already taken place on this building, there would remain “significant problems”, which would necessitate this next summer intervention before a major restoration to take place later.
