Executive Director of Indo Barometer, M. Qodari, revealed that the name Yusril Ihza Mahendra has become ‘alive’ as the vice presidential candidate accompanying Prabowo Subianto. According to him, this happened after the General Chair of the PDI Perjuangan DPP, Megawati Soekarnoputri announced Mahfud MD as Ganjar Pranowo’s companion for the 2024 presidential election.
“Why is it alive? First, Mr Yusril is also an expert in constitutional law like Mr Mahfud. Mr Yusril is also an experienced figure in government for a long time. So it is balanced,” said Qodari in a written statement, Thursday (19/10/2023).
“Pak Yusril has a very long experience in government. Apart from being an academic figure, Mr Yusril also comes from outside Java. One of the so-called criteria for a vice presidential candidate is also being outside Java,” continued Qodari.
Meanwhile, Gerindra Secretary General Ahmad Muzani gave the characteristics of the vice presidential candidate who will accompany Prabowo Subianto in the upcoming 2024 presidential election. Muzani conveyed these characteristics through two rhymes that he had put together.
Muzani conveyed this rhyme when asked by media crew about the opportunity for Prabowo to look at PBB Chairman Yusril Ihza Mahendra, who incidentally has mastered the field of law, following Mahfud MD who is officially Ganjar Pranowo’s vice presidential candidate. In this rhyme, Muzani gave a signal that Prabowo would later be accompanied by a figure with experience in government. He also said that if there was a meeting between Prabowo and Yusril, it would open the deadlock for the Advanced Indonesia coalition so that it could break the deadlock.
On the other hand, Chair of the Alumni Association of the Faculty of Law, University of Indonesia (ILUNI FHUI) Rapin Mudiardjo supports Yusril Ihza Mahendra as vice presidential candidate in the upcoming 2024 Presidential Election (Pilpres).
“This country needs enlightenment and Prof Yusril has the capacity and experience of several presidents he has accompanied. Intellectually and with credibility, he is in the DPR and legislature. So now is the time for him to be at the helm,” said Rapin.
Seeing the dynamics of legal problems currently occurring, Rapin believes that Indonesia needs a figure like Yusril. Moreover, if Yusril were paired with Prabowo, they would be a harmonious couple in developing Indonesia.
“Both of them are statesmen and have national references that prioritize the interests of society. If the two of them work together it will be a strength. In external relations there is Mr Prabowo and in internal relations there is Prof Yusril,” explained Rapin.
“For us, both of them are very suitable and his experience in several governments is also a good provision and vision for running the government in the future. Moreover, he is a professor and understands and pays close attention to legal issues,” he stressed.
Previously, Yusril’s name was also widely pressed by Prabowo Subianto’s winning volunteers in various regions. Not only in Jakarta or the island of Java, volunteers from outside Java such as South Sulawesi are also urging the Advanced Indonesia Coalition (KIM) to advance Yusril’s name as Prabowo’s vice presidential candidate.
Apart from volunteers, several academic organizations such as ILUNI FHUI also provide support to Yusril. Moreover, Yusril is an alumni of the Faculty of Law, University of Indonesia.
