Last Tuesday, November 21, Hyper He launched Yurvac® RHDthe first recombinant vaccine de RHD indicated for protection against rabbit hemorrhagic disease caused by the classic strain and the variant strain, including highly virulent strains. The event took place at the Sant Pau Modernist Site in Barcelona, where more than 60 professionals from the rabbit farming sector from all over Europe gathered.
To start the day, those attending the event visited the Hipra facilities in Amer (Girona). During the visit, an interview was also organized with experts who assessed the current situation of rabbit farming from the perspective of professionals from different countries.
In the afternoon, back in Barcelona, the Yurvac® RHD launch event took place. The doctor was present Joana AbrantesPhD, researcher at the University of Porto and specialist in rabbit virology, who gave a presentation titled ‘Rabbit hemorrhagic disease (RHD) virus: a never-ending story‘, where he explained the evolution of RHD, considering the appearance of strains with greater virulence on farms. Furthermore, he showed the importance of VP60 in the immune response. Finally, he analyzed the biosafety measures that must be implemented along with an adequate vaccination protocol.
Posteriorly, Sandra GasconGlobal Product Manager of Yurvac® RHD, interviewed the two main researchers responsible for the trials in Hipra, Mireia Fontseca y Eva Perozo. During the interview, the excellent results obtained in the preclinical and clinical studies carried out during the development and registration of Yurvac® RHD were explained.
Among its numerous advantages, Yurvac® RHD is the first commercial veterinary vaccine that uses yeast as a technological platform to recombinantly produce the RHD virus capsid protein in the form of VLPs (virus-like particles).
Likewise, it is also the first vaccine against RHD that is indicated for protection against highly virulent RHDV2 strains and provides cross protection against classic strains (RHDV).
With this launch, Hipra reaffirms itself as reference in the control of rabbit hemorrhagic diseasein addition to continuing to focus on strengthening rabbit vaccination plans.
