Yunes Márquez describes the “public lynching” against him as unfair

Mexico City. Senator Miguel Ángel Yunes Márquez considered the “public lynching” unleashed against him to be unfair for having voted with Morena and its allies on the judicial reform and warned that he will challenge the PAN’s decision to expel him from its ranks before the corresponding authorities.

Interviewed at the session on Friday, where the constitutional validity of this reform was declared, he said that he remains in the PAN and did not want to specify whether he will later join Morena, PVEM or PT.

He insisted that he is still a PAN senator, even though the place assigned to him is next to the Morena supporters.

“I will not allow myself to be expelled from the PAN for being free, for making decisions freely.”

The Veracruz legislator reiterated that “I am in the National Action Party, I believe that what they are doing, trying to expel my father and me, is an anti-democratic act.”

He announced that he will challenge this decision before the electoral authorities.

“The Constitution and the party’s own statutes indicate that a legislator cannot be reprimanded for his opinions and much less for voting in one direction or another on any of the initiatives and I am going to fight this attempt at expulsion, I will win and I will make them look ridiculous.”

He noted that “a political party cannot force its legislators to vote in one direction or another. I did it deliberately. I am not the only one. There are several local legislators who also did not want to follow the party’s instructions, because we are free to vote.”

Yunes Márquez was the focus of attention during that session, which was not attended by opposition senators.

“I came because it is my responsibility to come to the sessions like any other senator from any other party,” he said.

He was seen chatting animatedly with the coordinators of Morena, PT and PVEM, but he insisted that he has not considered joining any of those groups.

Regarding the possibility of voting with Morena on the rest of the constitutional reforms, including the one that leaves the Sedena in control of the National Guard, he responded that he would have to analyze them first.
