Yulia Navalnaya, the wife of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, strongly criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin following the news of her husband’s death in prison. According to the New York Times, Navalnaya said in a speech at the Munich Security Conference held at the Bayerischer Hof Hotel in Munich, Germany on the 16th, “I don’t know whether to believe the terrible news or not,” and added, “We cannot trust the Putin government. “They are always lying,” she said. Navalnaya’s speech was not scheduled, but it was reported that the speech schedule was added after news of Navalny’s death broke.

Navalnaya spoke for about two minutes in Russian that day and said, “I want to urge the world community, everyone in this room, people around the world to come together to defeat this evil and defeat this terrible regime that is currently in Russia.” U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris, U.S. Secretary of State Tony Blinken, and U.S. Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi are said to have observed the speech.

Born in Moscow, Russia in 1976, Navalnaya graduated from the Plekhanov School of Economics and worked at a bank in Moscow. While traveling to Turkye on vacation in 1998, she met Navalny, a lawyer of the same age, and married him in 2000. They have a daughter and a son. Navalnaya has since been nicknamed ‘First Lady of the Opposition’ and has been assisting her husband. Navalny’s last message posted on social media on the 14th, along with a photo of her couple, said, “There are cities, airfield runways, blue snowstorms and thousands of kilometers between us, but I love you so much as if I were by your side every moment.” there was.
