The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced that it held a meeting of provincial and provincial sports directors for the second time this year following March at the Seoul branch of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art on the 29th, presided over by Minister Yoo In-chon.

First, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism listened to local governments’ difficulties and discussed response plans as it converted part of the daily sports budget (KRW 41.6 billion) supported through the Korea Sports Council this year into local cooperation projects.
Through this reorganization, it is expected that the scale of the sports support budget will increase by operating customized programs that take into account the preferences and facilities of local residents and linking local expenses. In addition, the efficiency and transparency of subsidy management are expected to increase through integrated management of national and local funds.
The 17 cities and provinces in attendance agreed with the purpose of this reorganization and agreed to work with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to match local expenses and discover new programs that take regional conditions and autonomy into consideration so that next year’s project can be carried out smoothly.
In addition, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism shared a request for cooperation to innovate outdated practices prevalent in the sports world and create a fair sports culture in relation to the investigation of the Korea Badminton Association. Specifically, he requested △improvement of badminton players’ salaries and contract periods, △strengthening the management of sponsorship items for provincial and provincial badminton associations, △participation in workplace sports department operation support projects and increasing the number of players.
In addition, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism provided guidance on the direction of budget allocation for 2025, including budget expansion details to create a sports environment in daily life and reform of the excellent player training system from a future-oriented perspective. Opinions were heard on suggestions from local governments that require government cooperation. In addition, in connection with the results of the Korea Badminton Association’s investigation, we requested that we take a close look to ensure that there is no illegal or unfair budget execution by sports organizations actually carrying out business in the region.
Minister Yoo In-chon said, “Recently, the limitations of the existing system, such as organizational privatization and unfair culture in the sports world, are being revealed,” and “In a situation where public demands for normalization of the sports world are increasing, local governments, which are the basis of recreational sports and the actual activity stage for elite athletes, are “Cooperation is more important than anything else,” he said. He added, “The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will also do its best to resolve difficulties in local areas and reflect valuable opinions in the budget and policies.”
