China’s Yue Yuan edged out American Katie Volynets (4-6, 7-6 [3]6-0) and reached the round of 16 at the Stanford Golden Gate Open (WTA 125) on Monday.

Yuan, No. 113 in the WTA, will face Ukraine’s Kateryna Baindl, seeded No. 6, in the round of 16 at the Golden Gate Open at Stanford.
