The last time Ystads IF won Swedish Championship gold in handball was in 1992. Kim Andersson was then ten years old. Tonight, the 39-year-old veteran, one of the faithful servants in the team, himself celebrated a Swedish Championship title in front of 2,700 in the stands that only boiled in the handball-crazy city.
And of course it was a very happy Kim Andersson who came to SVT Sports microphone afterwards:
– It feels absolutely fucking wonderful, sorry you can not swear on TV, but it feels indescribable!
Why is Ystads IF the best in Sweden?
– Thick forehead bone, we have been calculated but have come back every time. We live on … I do not know if it’s even a second, and now we stand as Swedish champions, it feels fantastic.
The match was as even as it can be, went to extra time in extra time – but the only thing that could separate the teams was a shoot-out where Ystad put all five balls in goal – in comparison with Skövde’s four.
Julius Lindskog Andersson became the match hero for Ystad when he put the last shoot-out ball in goal.
The drama of the match had actually started much earlier. With less than a minute left of regular time, the score was 32-32, Ystad had the ball and could have decided the match already there. Then Skövde instead stole the ball and in the last closing second Jack Thurin basically got an open goal.
But after discussions, the referee team announced that the goal was not approved, as the ball went into goal after the final signal.
