The Paris Olympic Games officially ended on Sunday, August 11, 2024. That day, the traditional closing ceremony of the event took place in the Stade de France. It was the singer Yseult who was chosen to conclude the show with a cover of the interplanetary hit called My Way. She spoke about this the next day in the columns of
Parisian.
“It was an incredible, suspended moment. It was a great honor to have been able to represent France.“, Yseult first indicated. “A few days ago. I was in Los Angeles when I heard the good news. I was proud. I’ve never been to the Zenith, Olympia or Bercy and I find myself at the Stade de France? Ok, let’s go! You can’t refuse that. I was still a little apprehensive.“, the musician then added.
Yseult: “I was proud to sing in front of the whole world”
“I didn’t feel completely legitimate because it’s the closing, it’s important. But I told myself that I had to force myself to honor this proposal. I was proud to sing in front of the whole world, even if I was very afraid of not being able to interpret it“, Yseult also stressed.
“I really enjoyed singing this song. I had covered it when I participated in New Star years ago. But I had done the French version, Comme d’habitude, by Claude François. The lyrics are very different from Frank Sinatra’s version. And when I was in the studio, I found myself in the lyrics. It moved me a lot. It came at the right time for me“, Yseult also specified.
The singer has made a promise to honour the French language
“I like the way it seems to be a conclusion of Frank Sinatra’s career. It’s a kind of bow to the world, to his fans, to himself. As if he were saying I did a lot of things my way. And I have no regrets, I own it. And it’s a bit me, my mistakes, my victories, my loves. It’s all that which defines my journey. And I find that super beautiful.“, Yseult also indicated.
“I made a promise to myself to honor the French language wherever I go. Of course, I sang in English here, but it’s a song by Claude François. We need to feel united at such a time. I sing My Way to say that we, the French, did this ceremony ‘our way’. It’s important to accept the fact that we’re not perfect. I’m a French citizen who lives in Paris, and above all, I’m a human being with my complexity and my beauty. That’s what makes me strong today.“, Yseult finally concluded.
