YRD.Works shows “Steady Burn” on the Clariant site in Offenbach

Offenbach ⋅ Seven in the morning and the fire is burning. That’s the most important thing, even if the gentlemen artists are still in bed, if you trust the live stream that broadcasts “Steady Burn”. Yacin Boudalfa, Ruben Fischer and David Bausch, who have been working together as YRD.Works since they were students at the Offenbach University of Design, can watch calmly as their work is consumed. And nothing remains but a pile of ashes.

That’s basically all. And yet says little about the hybrid status of “Steady Burn” between sculpture, performance and installation. The three of them worked for a week on the stage-like sculpture measuring around 180 square meters, only to disassemble the construction again with a hand saw and gradually burn it. Around the clock. Fire station included. Not for a party, because of the boy scout romance or as an end in itself, all that too, may be. But above all as a performative reflection on sculpture, which initially arises here and takes on a clearly defined form, but which is now getting smaller and smaller board by board and beam by beam and will probably have completely disappeared by Sunday morning.
