Ypres joins the WRC calendar

From November 19 to 22, Belgium will host the World Rally Championship for the first time in its history. The Ypres rally will broadly resume the event planned for the Belgian championship, but obviously with a few additional stages to increase the mileage.

The route, spread over three days of racing, will finally be spread over 288 kilometers with two first days taking up the main lines of previous editions and loops of five specials. Sunday will be oriented around the legendary Spa-Francorchamps circuit and its legendary Raidillon. The service park will be located in the heart of the city of Ypres in the historic center of Grote Markt.

For its part, Belgium will thus become the 34th different country to host a round of the World Rally Championship since its creation in 1973.

“It’s a great honor because as an organizer you always want to reach the highest level,” said Jan Huyghe, promoter of the Belgian event. “Ypres Rally has a solid reputation in terms of organization and safety and the city of Ypres has rally in its genes for 56 years. The rally is an integral part of the region and we receive a lot of support and facilities from the city to organize our rally in a unique historical context. “

« We have adapted the well-known Ypres special stages on Friday and Saturday to the format and schedule of the World Championship. We will do two loops of 5 specials on both days. “

“On the last day of the race, we will go to another iconic location in Belgian motorsport: the Spa-Francorchamps circuit, with its legendary Raidillon. The last day will include two stages around the circuit, in Ster and Malmedy, as well as a special using the F1 circuit, ” concludes the promoter.
