The house-museum “Yordan Yovkov” will be the first object under the approved project “Yovkov’s Dobrich – a modern tourist destination” in the amount of BGN 3.6 million of the municipality of Dobrich, which will undergo restoration and conservation. The Dobruja singer lived there after his wedding. “However, our goal is to restore the courtyard and ennoble the space so that it becomes a place for cultural events. It is not only an object of visits by guests of the city, but also a stage for local artists of the pen, the brush etc.” – said the deputy mayor of Dobrich Kamelia Koycheva.
In addition to the renovations, in order to revive these iconic places for Dobrich, we need to bring the cultural process to them – she added. A tourist information center will also be created there. “The idea is that the renewal of the exposition for the writer and his work should be oriented more as a new way of presenting the exhibits, and not so much towards enriching it – it is about more modern and attractive options” – explained K. Koycheva.
Within the framework of the project, the yard space of the Ethnographic House will also be renovated, and the cobblestone pavement in the “Old Dobrich” architectural-ethnographic complex will be restored. The current Museum of Natural History will get its old facade, as the building is unique both in architecture and in the fact that it was a casino. The entire route will be marked with signs, on which there will also be Yovkov’s thoughts. An ethno-festival “In the world of Job’s heroes” is also planned, which will bring together different nationalities and representatives of ethnographic groups. Within 5 days, they will present their way of life and culture, developing the writer’s messages of humanism.
The other approved project – “Cultural-innovative events” of the municipality of Dobrich is entitled “Dobrich – a living seamstress of talents”. “The goal is to make citizens become active participants in cultural events,” K. Koycheva stressed. The amount that will be allocated for the activities is about half a million BGN. The project includes a festival and artelite for poetry, drawing, music and dance, in which well-wishers will be active participants, prompted by animators.
“They will be located on the central street “25 September”, as well as on the streets “Bulgaria” and “Nezavisimost”, which we have named the river of life” – commented the deputy mayor. The one-day festival will “start” from the flower arch of the city park. She explained that the desire of the municipality is that, in this way, the many festivals that take place in Dobrich will be taken out of the halls and come to life in the open air. It is planned that the events within the project will take place in the months of May and September, when the cultural calendar is the most saturated and there are more holidays.
