The Venezuelan YouTuber Oscar Alejandro was arrested this Sunday in Venezuela after being accused of being linked to alleged “terrorist activities.” The authorities have not yet commented on the case, everything that is known about the arrest is thanks to a statement that his relatives have issued to the press.
The 37-year-old content creator is dedicated to promoting tourist content on his social networks and promoting Venezuelan culture. Oscar Alejandro Pérez Martínez, known on the Internet as Oscar Alejandro, lives in the United States and has 1.8 million subscribers on YouTube and 580,000 followers on Instagram.
On March 31, he was detained at the Simón Bolívar Airport, in Maiquetía, when he was preparing to travel to Canaima. “According to preliminary reports available, the arrest is linked to accusations of terrorism-related activities,” the family confirmed in the statement.

Held in the anti-terrorism division
Now, the YouTuber is being held in the anti-terrorism division of the Scientific Police (Cicpc) in Caracas. He is waiting to have a hearing this April 1 at the 2nd Court of Control of the Metropolitan Area of the capital. The family trusts that this entire situation will be clarified in court and they will be assured “fair treatment.”
Although the authorities have not commented on the matter, this type of arrest is common in Venezuela. This year alone, the Venezuelan national body has denounced at least six alleged plans linked to terrorism that have led to more than forty arrests.
