YouTuber Matthew Perks of DIY Perks built a three-screen portable PC from an old laptop screen, components from the Framework laptop, and some iPad screens. The housing is 3D printed.
Perks shows in the video how he put together the portable PC, which he refers to as a three-screen laptop. The pcb is from the Framework laptop and the USB-C to DisplayPort cables to connect the screens also come from there. The battery is also from Framework.
Next to the primary 2160p screen with 120Hz refresh rate are two 60Hz iPad screens with a resolution of 2048×1536 pixels. These are the first generation Retina screens from iPads, so 9.7″ ones from, for example, the iPad 3 or iPad 4 from 2012. They are powered by a 5V power supply that is connected to the USB-C cable. Because that doesn’t happen by default, Perks had to solder that separately.
He has 3D printed the housing and is therefore made of plastic. The whole can be folded into a package and in combination with a wireless keyboard and mouse it can be used as a PC with three screens. Perks has the files to get started with the build yourself posted online.
