YouTube star Ruby Franke (41) is behind the channel 8 Passengers, where she and her husband have shown life with six children. Now she has been arrested and is charged with serious child abuse, reports NBC.
On Wednesday this week, she was arrested after one of her children was found malnourished and with open wounds on her body. The child also allegedly had duct tape wrapped around his arms and legs.

Franke’s former colleague, Jodi Hildebrandt, was also arrested and charged with the same relationship.
Hildebrandt is behind the service ConneXions, a service that offers life guidance. ConneXions has previously received criticism for its attitudes about raising children.

“So serious”
In a press release Thursday, the Santa Clara-Ivins Public Safety Department states that they received a report of concern Wednesday morning. It was about a minor needing help.

The boy, aged twelve, is said to have climbed out of a window in the city of Ivins in Utah in the USA and ran to a neighboring house where he asked for food and water.
The child was described as “emaciated and malnourished, with open wounds and duct tape around his ankles and wrists”.

“The condition of the child was so serious that he was taken to the hospital,” the press release states.
The boy, who is Franke’s son, is said to have had deep wounds after being tied up.
Evidence is said to have then led the authorities to a nearby home where they found another child in a similar condition, who was also sent to the hospital.
A total of four children were taken by the American Child Welfare Service from the same home in which the malnourished children were found.

Franke and Hildebrandt were then arrested in connection with the discovery. They are still in custody, according to police in Washington.

“Hi all. It’s been a big day today. My family and I are so happy that justice is finally prevailing. We have been trying to tell the police and child protection services about this for several years, and are so happy that they are finally taking action. The children are safe, but have a long way to go. Keep them in your prayers and please respect their privacy.”
Ruby Franke and Jodi Hildebrandt have so far not commented on the arrest or the charges.

Ruby Franke rose to fame in 2015 through her YouTube channel 8 Passengers, gaining almost 2.3 million followers before the channel was removed earlier this year. It is not known why the channel was taken down from YouTube.

According to NBC, Franke and her husband were often criticized for being too strict with the children, which led to several people who saw their videos on YouTube reporting them to the police.
One of the sons is said to have said in an earlier video that he had been sleeping on a burlap sack for seven months. Child protection was contacted at the time, but Franke claimed that his son slept on the sack because “he chose it himself”.
