Youtube Shorts passes 1.5 billion monthly users mark

O YouTube announced that its service Shorts is being watched by more than 1.5 billion of users logged in every month. In September 2021, the TikTokthe main rival in this “market”, had 1 billion monthly users – and we have not had updated numbers since then.

Youtube Shorts was created less than two years ago as a rival to Reels e, mainly from TikTok, which helped popularize short videos. They all basically work the same way: you have a timeline infinity with content that lasts, mostly, from 15 to 60 seconds and you can do your own production in the apps editor. O use of filterssongs and transitions is released, and the product will be distributed by the algorithm not only to its followers.

YouTube highlights Shorts’ ability to direct viewers to traditional long-video channels as a by-product of its investments in Shorts. According to the company, its platform would be the one that “best reflects the reality of today’s viewer”, dividing the time between fast content and more immersive videos. Shorts, then, would be a way for content creators to reach a new audience that would potentially become more regulars in long-form videos.

According to Tara Walpert Levy, vice president of the Americas at YouTube, “Channels that upload both short- and long-form content are experiencing better overall watchtime and subscriber growth than those that upload only one format.”

TikTok is also trying to “gain ground”com videos of up to 10 minutes in your infinite feed. It would be a way to attract content creators who are currently on Youtube. This update has not yet reached all the places where the application is used.

TikTok was predicted to hit the 1.5 billion users a month mark sometime this year.
