In the past few days, many international customers of Youtube Premium have been notified by email (according to Reddit) informed that the prices for the service will increase sharply in November 2024. In EU countries such as Italy or the Netherlands the price for the family subscription increases from 18 euros to 26 euros per month and the individual price increases from 12 euros to 14 euros per month. For other countries such as Switzerland, Ireland or Sweden, the price increase is even more noticeable.
So far, no such price increase has been announced for the USA or Germany. The increase in the USA would be relevant because changes in the region always reach the rest of the world a few months later. Even if this situation does not apply this time, several other EU countries are affected by the cost increase. It is therefore quite possible that the new euro prices will be applied to other countries in the coming months.
YouTube is increasing the cost of Premium, it is placing more and more advertising on the platform and it is actively combating the use of ad blockers. With the new costs, YouTube Premium is one of the most expensive subscription services in many countries, which of course is making more and more people Blockers or alternatives. YouTube is somehow causing its own problems through its brazen greed. I would like to see the music function become its own subscription and users receive cheaper offers for pure ad-free content.
