In a surprise move by the video platform giant, YouTube has announced that it will lower the requirements for its YouTube Affiliates program, making it easier for content creators to monetize their content.
Under these new requirements, creators can apply for a partnership starting at 500 subscribers, a 50% discount from the 1,000 previously required. Other requirements are also being reduced, such as creators requiring only 3,000 hours of valid watch time instead of 4,000, and 3 million YouTube Shorts views compared to 10 million previously.
Corresponding CommonThe site also opens up “a handful of monetization methods for smaller creators, including paid chat, tips, channel memberships, and shopping features.”
The shopping partner program is particularly interesting. Previously it was only available by invitation from select creators, but with these sweeping changes, US YouTube Partners program participants with at least 20,000 subscribers can now sign up.
These changes are initially rolling out in the US, UK, Canada, Taiwan and South Korea, with plans to expand the number of regions later.
YouTube is actually doing some good (including TikTok!)
YouTube has recently made some design-friendly and user-friendly changes to its website. Some of these include Abolition of overlapping banner advertising on the desktop version, YouTube Premie for iOS to get better quality videos and harness the power of AI Make real-time translations for his videos.
Although some changes have been well received, such as the feature that makes this possible Viewers see the most viewed parts a video about a clear diagram, others, such as the site’s ongoing effort to do so Block adblockerswere less popular.
Either way, it’s good to see YouTube working to actively improve the experience. And it’s not just YouTube, other social media platforms like TikTok have been working on similar quality-of-life changes as well.
For example, The Verge describes how TikTok’s “Video Paywall Feature Series” would be available to creators with more than 10,000 followers, but that users with 1,000 followers who meet other requirements would also be able to sign up to participate in the program.
It’s nice to see some positive news around these sites, and we’re keeping our fingers crossed that YouTube isn’t in serious trouble anytime soon after this announcement. I’m afraid that’s it a little late for TikTokalthough.
