YouTube Launches New Features for Creative Shorts Videos

KOMPAS.com – YouTube launched a number of new features to help users make creative videos on Shorts, a short video sharing service on YouTube a la TikTok.

There are six features released by YouTube, namely features for remixing (combining) videos, new effects and stickers, and support for live broadcasts (live) in a vertical orientation.

These six new features were added by YouTube to enrich Shorts’ ability to compete with competitors, such as TikTok.

“We’re introducing new creative tools to improve the quality of your Shorts and inspire you to create other Shorts videos,” said Sarah Ali, Senior Director of Product Management, YouTube Shorts, Creation & Community, quoted by KompasTekno from the YouTube blog, Wednesday (2/8/2023 ).

Here are the new features in YouTube Shorts.

Collab

The first feature or tool is called Collab aka remix. This feature allows users to record Shorts videos in collage format. So, users can create new videos, then combine them with other videos on Shorts or YouTube, so that they become one video.

YouTube also provides several collage options. In addition, there is also an option to merge user videos with video backgrounds on Shorts/YouTube.

This option can be used thanks to Green Screen support. However, users can only use 1-5 seconds of Shorts/YouTube videos as background.

To use the Collab feature, users only need to press the option Remix > Collab. This feature will be available in the coming weeks for users on iOS, followed by Android.

New stickers and effects

YouTube has also added new video effects and stickers to Shorts. One of them is the Question and Answer (Q&A) sticker which can invite followers or other users to interact by asking questions.

Answers or responses to these questions can later be added to other videos.

Live broadcast (live)

YouTube is also testing the live broadcast feature, aka live in a vertical orientation, aka portrait. Later, live videos will also be found by users in the Shorts feed. So the distribution of creator live broadcasts is even wider, than just in the YouTube feed.

YouTube says it hopes this feature will help creators connect directly with new audiences and build their community in a more fun way.

Filter effects in Youtube Shorts

In addition to filter effects, the audio corresponding to that effect can also be used by the user at the same time. This practice is the same as when users use certain filters and audio on Instagram or Reels.

Save Shorts content

Now, YouTube also allows users to save Shorts and summarize them in a playlist or playlist.

When users find shorts of interest, they can hit the save button and select an available playlist. That way, users can watch the video again when needed.

Make horizontal videos vertical

The latest YouTube Short feature is video recomposition. However, currently this feature is still being tested.

This tool will help users convert horizontally oriented videos into vertical aliases Shorts videos.

Later, users can adjust the video layout, enlarge (zoom) to cut segments. YouTube will begin testing this feature in the coming weeks.
