YouTube Launches New Creative Tools for Shorts Video Platform

The YouTube platform expanded its YouTube partner program earlier this year, allowing creators to earn revenue through Shorts. This time, a number of creative tools have been launched for the Shorts short video platform, allowing creators to express their creativity with just a few simple clicks.

1. Remix to create a new gameplay: Collab

Collab is a new authoring tool that presents your recorded Shorts side-by-side with other YouTube or Shorts videos. Creators can easily choose a split-screen format from a variety of layout options, and just click “Remix” and “Collab” in sequence to remix eligible Shorts or YouTube videos.

Collab can also be used with the Green Screen feature to use a YouTube video or Shorts as the background for an original Shorts video. Another way to remix Shorts content is with the clip function, which allows you to extract 1-5 second clips from YouTube videos or Shorts and add them to your Shorts. From now until the next few weeks, the interesting thing is that this feature is first launched on the iOS platform, and the Android version will be launched in the future.

2. New special effects and textures

Dozens of new Shorts effects have been added, for example, you can use the upcoming question and answer stickers to ask the audience questions and see the answers in the comment area. You can also use Shorts to reply to comments, which is a fun and intimate way to publicly thank those who provide creative inspiration.

3. Shorts Live

We’re excited to share that YouTube is testing a mobile-first direct-to-Shorts live experience! Viewers in the test can preview the vertical live video in the Shorts feed, and when clicking to watch the live content, the viewer will also enter the scrollable feed of the live content. This practice will also help increase the visibility of live creators in the Shorts feed.

Through this feature, we hope to help creators build new audiences in a fun and modern way, and interact with audiences around the world in real time. Now creators can start streaming instantly with just a few taps on the screen, orient the device in a vertical orientation.

The Shorts live broadcast will also open the use of functions such as super comments, super stickers and channel membership; not only that, but the YouTube partner program has also relaxed the application qualifications.

4. Auto recommend material

To use this feature, in the Shorts player, tap the “Remix” button and select “Use Sound”.

5. Save Shorts to Playlist

If you don’t want to miss the special effects you just discovered, you can immediately save them to the playlist. Next time when inspiration strikes, you can click on the reference and try to apply it to your own work. For related list examples, please refer to the playlist organized by JVKE.

6. Convert horizontal video to Shorts

In the next few weeks, YouTube will begin testing a new reorganization tool that will allow creators to easily convert landscape videos into Shorts. Once you’ve selected the videos you want to remix, you can adjust the layout, zoom and crop the clips, or use the split-screen feature to rescale feature-length videos into more eye-catching original Shorts. We expect to gradually roll out these new tools and share more details in the coming weeks.

Sarah Ali, Senior Director of Product Management, Creativity and Community, YouTube Shorts, said that there are more Shorts features coming soon, so stay tuned for relevant news. We can’t wait to see creators take advantage of these new tools.
