YouTube ramps up efforts to crack down on ad blockers across the board
YouTube has been cracking down on ad blockers since the beginning of the year, but it’s clearly been ineffective, so now it’s decided to step up its efforts. “Using an ad blocker is a violation of YouTube’s User Agreement. We have begun working globally to urge users who use blockers to allow YouTube to display ads or try subscribing to YouTube Premium for an ad-free experience.” A YouTube spokesperson “Advertising supports a diverse ecosystem of creators around the world, allowing billions of people to see the content they love on YouTube,” he said.
Prior to this, YouTube had tried to force users to turn off the blocker or “spend money to ward off the disaster” by means of pop-up warnings and countdowns (reminding users that they will not be able to see any videos after blocking three times). Naturally, there has been a huge backlash from users, and blocker developers have been updating their tools to compete with YouTube. According to the current feedback from users on the Internet, it is not too difficult to bypass YouTube’s restrictions for the time being. It remains to be seen whether the official will take further action.
