Jakarta (ANTARA) – After testing Premium Lite for two years, a lower cost subscription package for enjoying ad-free video viewing in several countries, YouTube has decided to discontinue the package.
In an email to customers, YouTube announced that it would no longer offer Premium Lite after October 25, 2023, as broadcast on The Verge page, Tuesday.
“While we understand this may be disappointing news, we are continuing to work on various versions of Premium Lite as we incorporate feedback from our users, creators, and partners,” YouTube said in an email to subscribers.
The YouTube Premium Lite package was first launched at 6.99 euros (Rp. 114 thousand) per month in several European countries in 2021, including Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden.

The plan allows viewers to enjoy ad-free video viewing across a variety of YouTube apps and formats, but does not include other Premium features such as downloads offline, background playback, or YouTube Music benefits.
Once discontinued, customers who have subscribed to Premium Lite will immediately have two choices, namely returning to watching YouTube with ads or subscribing to YouTube Premium which is more expensive and also includes YouTube Music.
In an email notifying the change, YouTube said that it would offer a one-month free trial of YouTube Premium to Lite customers, regardless of whether they had tried it before.
Customers will need to cancel their Lite subscription or wait until it is canceled to get the offer. YouTube has increased the price of their Premium and Music subscriptions in the United States in July.
