Video and audio platform YouTube today began launching a beta version of YouTube Shorts’ short video and audio feature in the United States to strengthen the TikTok challenge.
According to YouTube Product Manager Todd Sherman, during the trial period in India, the popularity of YouTube Shorts soared, with more than 6.5 billion views daily.
Xue Man said: “We began launching the beta version of YouTube Shorts in the United States today. We will continue to accumulate experience with the international community. As we continue to work with creators and artists to create shorts, we also plan to launch more features.”
According to Xue Man, YouTube is also studying how to allow people who upload short videos to charge viewers.
TikTok, which is growing rapidly and has a Chinese background, faces censorship due to its relationship with the Beijing government. Netflix added the Fast Laughs feature to the iPhone app earlier this month to provide users with funny short videos.
Facebook’s Instagram also launched Reels in August last year, which can record short 15-second videos; Snapchat launched Spotlight in November of last year to compete with TikTok.
