YouTube Announces Partnership with Music Industry to Explore Generative AI in Music

YouTube has announced a partnership with the music industry to explore the impact of generative artificial intelligence (AI) on music. In line with its AI principles, YouTube aims to use AI responsibly while working closely with its music partners.

As part of this initiative, a “Music AI Incubator” will be set up, which will work with innovative artists, songwriters and producers. Universal Music Group is the first partner to join the incubator, with artists such as Anitta, Björn Ulvaeus and the Frank Sinatra estate.

This collaboration aims to collect insights on generative AI experiments and research being developed at YouTube. She will also focus on adapting Content ID, YouTube’s copyright management system, to accommodate generative AI and allow for appropriate monetization for artists and creators.

YouTube recognizes that generative AI brings challenges such as copyright abuse and misinformation. At the same time, however, it sees the potential of AI to identify and address these problems. The platform is keen to invest in AI-powered technology to protect its community of viewers, creators, artists and songwriters.

This partnership between YouTube and the music industry aims to create a safe, responsible, and profitable music and video ecosystem where artists and songwriters maintain their creative integrity and are fairly rewarded.
