Wittingen – The Wittingen youth support has an innovation ready for the young people in the city area – and is traveling across the country with a mobile youth club. This means that there are now offers outside of the two youth clubs in Wittingen and Knesebeck.

The team is always on the go on Wednesdays and Thursdays and is present somewhere in the city from 3 p.m. to 4.30 p.m. This week on the Wittingen market square, next week at the church in Ohrdorf, and on June 30th and July 1st at the Knesebeck water playground. In the luggage: games like shuffle board, mini golf, badminton and much more. Visitors aged 8 and over are welcome. You should still have a mask with you.

The “Bulli” is one of many ways in which youth development keeps in touch with children and young people. In the Corona times, social media was and is an important forum, as Viktoria Ruder, head of youth development, now explained to the Wittingen social committee. Her team reaches the kids with Instagram and Snapchat, and the parents with Facebook.

But there are also presence offers, not only with the mobile meeting point. For example, the youth development organization called for people to take part in the renovation of the meeting place. Work is ongoing in Knesebeck and has been completed in Wittingen. Ruder, who has been in office for a year, also relies on collaborations, for example with schools or the “lighthouse” of the Diakoniestation. With his wish for an “exchange of know-how between old and young”, committee member Thomas Knöfel (FWG) opened the door to the head of youth development. She wants to expand the network work with clubs, associations and churches, the Discord server is to be expanded in the second half of the year.

Digital and analog – this dual track of Wittingen’s youth work will manifest itself. A website is in progress, as is the summer vacation program.

Ruder also pointed out to the committee that the search for new youth meeting rooms in Wittingen was still ongoing – after all, the current location had been declared as an interim solution after the old youth meeting point on Bürgermeister-Heins-Straße burned down in 2009. When asked by Mayor Andreas Ritter whether the future also lies in stationary offerings, Ruder said that it was definitely the case. Helene Rausch, head of the “Education and Generations” department, added that the number of young visitors had indeed declined somewhat – also due to all-day school offers – but a contact point for young people in the form of a meeting will also be necessary in the future: “There is evidence again and again young people who need someone who is there for them. “
