YOUTH CHECK
What is the goal?
As a feedback and assessment format, Bundesliga locations with particularly good youth development are visibly awarded a status (gold, silver, bronze). The status thus reflects the youth work taking into account the local location conditions.
How does the youth check work?
The development of the location and the strengthening of young talent form the basis of a sustainable professional game operation. The youth check serves as a central instrument for the (further) development of the location for all Bundesliga clubs in the ProA and ProB.
The youth check of the clubs of the BARMER 2. Basketball Bundesliga is carried out jointly with the easyCredit Basketball Bundesliga and the German Basketball Training Fund eV.
In a three-stage process, quantitative data is first collected in a report using an online questionnaire. This is followed by a site visit to get an idea of all the activities in discussions with those involved in youth work at the site. An additional workshop format enables the Bundesliga clubs to initiate future-oriented development processes that go beyond the analysis. Finally, the Bundesliga clubs are given the opportunity to participate in project funding.
Which aspects are considered in the context of the young talent check?
The Bundesliga clubs are evaluated using various model levels, taking local site conditions into account. Based on this evaluation, a classification into categories is made. At the end of the site visit, the club receives direct feedback in the form of a presentation based on the evaluation.
From now on, the youth check of the clubs in the BARMER 2nd Basketball Bundesliga will be based on the development of the most ideal player career possible. This includes the categories of the bonding phase, the development phase, the peak performance phase and the associated framework conditions.
The core points of the bonding phase are the “entry into the movement” with the building blocks of ball school/daycare, talent search and staff, as well as the “entry into the club”, which covers the infrastructure, staff and talent search in the younger age groups.
The development phase category is divided into the areas of “entry into training and competition” and “entry into the performance area”. In addition to health-related content, the focus here is on school cooperation, infrastructural framework conditions and personnel. The development phase covers your work with children in the age groups U14 to JBBL.
The peak performance phase includes the “entry into the professional sector”. The key points here are the topics of athleticism & health, dual career, personnel and infrastructure. The last category is the framework conditions. The framework conditions include your “club structures”. The club structure is about your internal culture in the youth sector, concepts and structures. The process includes financing, your infrastructure and further developments in the youth sector.
What is behind the project funding?
Following the site visit, the Bundesliga clubs have the option of project-related funding. This can be used to strengthen existing structures as well as new approaches. This funding is linked to the obligation for the supported clubs to share their projects and experiences with the community. An application for project funding is voluntary and can be submitted by the certified Bundesliga clubs in writing to the German Basketball Training Fund eV following the site visit.
After all site visits in the junior check have been completed, the submitted projects are reviewed by the training committee and selected projects are then awarded prizes.
