The aim of the seal of quality, which was launched in 2007, is to ensure the qualitative and continuous further and further development of talents in the professional clubs. The HBL and clubs ensure the best possible conditions for young German players, under which young handball players can develop into top players and, at best, into national players.
The prescribed conditions – developed in close cooperation with the clubs – were met this year by 16 LIQUI MOLY HBL clubs. The academies of eleven clubs from the second handball league are decorated with the seal of quality.
Füchse Berlin and TSV Hannover-Burgdorf are continuing an impressive series with another star award. Since the youth certificate with a star was introduced, the two clubs have been awarded a special rating every year. SG Flensburg-Handewitt, SC DHfK Leipzig, SC Magdeburg and MT Melsungen receive the special seal of approval for the fifth time in a row, and promoted VfL Gummersbach for the fourth time in a row. And THW Kiel also defended the special award it received for the first time last year.
From the 2nd HBL, HC Empor Rostock and TSV Bayer Dormagen can adorn themselves with a star. In addition, 1. VfL Potsdam was awarded the youth certificate after being promoted back to the 2. HBL – and right away with a star.
Mattes Rogowski, Head of Sports and Licensing at Handball-Bundesliga GmbH: “At the World Cup in Poland and Sweden you can see how important good youth work is. Almost all the players in the current squad have passed through our clubs’ academies. Just like the up-and-coming talents of the junior national team, which played outstandingly at the last four-country tournament.”
The Licensing Commission of the Handball Bundesliga awards the youth certificate, some with a special rating (see asterisk in the list), to the following clubs:
LIQUI MOLY HBL: Foxes Berlin*, MT Melsungen*, SG Flensburg-Handewitt*, SC DHfK Leipzig*, SC Magdeburg*, THW Kiel*, TSV Hannover-Burgdorf*, VfL Gummersbach*, Bergischer HC, FRESH ON! Göppingen, HC Erlangen, Handball Sport Club Hamburg, Rhein-Neckar Löwen, TBV Lemgo Lippe, GWD Minden, TVB Stuttgart
2. HBL: HC Empor Rostock*, TSV Bayer Dormagen*, 1. VfL Potsdam*, HBW Balingen-Weilstetten, HC Elbflorenz Dresden, HSG Konstanz, SG BBM Bietigheim, ThSV Eisenach, TuSEM Essen, TuS-N Lübbecke, VfL Eintracht Hagen
For the youth certificate: In 2007, the youth certificate was created as a cross-league seal of approval. The clubs unanimously approved the demanding award procedure. Since 2008, it has been awarded to professional clubs that offer good conditions for young handball players in their academies. The youth certificate presupposes that young players find the best possible conditions in the club and environment, which make training to become a top player possible. Criteria are checked in the award procedure, such as E.g. mature support and training concepts (dual career), quality of the coaching staff as well as of the team and training. With the award for the year 2023, the certificate was awarded for the 16th time.
The youth certificate is awarded annually by the licensing commission of the Handball Bundesliga. The basis for the decisions are the opinions of the certification committee. In addition to Frank Bohmann (Managing Director of Handball-Bundesliga GmbH), Jochen Beppler (Chief National Coach for Young Talents, DHB) and Mattes Rogowski (Head of Sport & Licensing Procedures, HBL GmbH) have also been represented for the first time this year.
The regulations for issuing the youth certificate can be viewed at www.liquimoly-hbl.de (HBL GmbH, downloads, forms/regulations).
