Yousry Nasrallah emphasized that his films are not political, but express people and life in general, except for the film “Water, Greenery, and a Beautiful Face,” saying: “My films depends on stories by many people, as found. in life.”
He explained that he always likes his artworks to bear witness to the stories he lived with people, saying: “I’m passionate about people and their lives, and showing films which explains that I am not drawn to presenting theoretical projects, but about stories in my life that I know and have seen, and I feel happy when I look at real works.”
He pointed out that “Egypt has lived through very difficult times in its history, and the people always find a way to resist all these conditions in order to survive. “
He said that he had many problems in his first film, “Summer Robberies,” in 1988, because most of the stars refused to participate in the film because of the story, so there was it depends on a group of new artists at the time, considering it. this project is a big “risk” since he spent about 50 thousand dollars.
He continued, “The censorship was against the situation of the film, with the view that it was against the policies of the late President Gamal Abdel Nasser, since the story of a feudal family any film for or the officer’s face.”
He pointed out that he belongs to the generation of the sixties, and French, Italian and Latin American cinema was an inspiration to him, because of the nature of their themes and the art form through which they are presented One Thousand and One Nights,” he considered them among the most important works he read, especially because they had a great influence on his imagination.
Ahmed Zaki and Bassem Samra
During the conference, Yousry Nasrallah spoke about the late artist Ahmed Zaki, stressing that he wanted to present the film “Mercedes” in 1993, but he refused to give him the main role, because he he saw it as not suitable for the film.
He also pointed out his experience with the artist Bassem Samra, who first started through one of the documentary films of the director Youssef Chahine, saying: “He needed an actor to express a popular class, and I met him for the first time during the casting of the film. “
He also said that he introduced Bassem Samra to the public for the first time through the movie “Boys and Girls” in the mid-nineties, after which he started his artistic career, the revealed that “Bassem is the reason I presented the film (After that the Battle) about what happened to the famous person (The Battle of the Camel).
He continued, “I was in the field at the time, and I thought that those who did the incident were carrying weapons, but Bassem denied that to me at the time.
