The artist, Yousra, expressed her happiness with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s directive to strengthen the support system for art workers, saying that it is evidence that art and artists are dear to the homeland and to Egypt.
She added, during a phone call to the “Al-Hekaya” program, presented by Amr Adeeb on MBC Egypt, on Sunday evening, that many artists fall ill and cannot afford treatment, stressing that the directive confirms the importance of artists to the state, the president, and society.
She pointed out that art has value and resonance in the Arab world and abroad, following up: “The president’s directive makes us feel that we are supported and have a back and a support. He does not provide art only, but other things, may God give him to us because he works in a million needs to satisfy all people and levels.”
She noted that there are a large number of artists who need money, but dignity, pride and self-esteem make them not ask for help, adding that other artists try to help them among themselves if they feel the matter.
And she mentioned that the artist assumes a set of responsibilities even if he gets a big salary, commenting: “Even if he gets a big salary, he has great responsibilities around him, and the reward is a livelihood for him and for the people around him.”
